Rug Cleaning Process

01

Pre-Inspection

We measure and photograph each rug, ensuring accurate pricing and discussing any cleaning concerns or options with you. All rugs over the value of £350.00 will go through our 52 point inspection.

02

Dusting – Dry Soil Removal

Rugs undergo automatic dusting to remove dry soils like hair, grit, and sand. Fragile rugs receive gentle treatment with a portable duster to preserve their integrity. (Portable dusting isn’t as effective, but we deem this a more sensible route.)

03

Pre Wash Stain Treatment

Any stains on your rug are treated with environmentally safe and non-toxic specialist solutions before washing. Our certified technicians apply these treatments with the utmost care, discussing alternative options like color repair or restoration if needed.

04

Decontamination Treatment

A sanitising solution is applied to disinfect and kill microorganisms that can cause odors. This solution is scrubbed into the rug’s fibers using handheld or automatic machine scrub brushes.

05

Wash Tub Pre-Soak

Rugs are placed in our wash tub for a gentle 30-minute pre-soak, mimicking hand washing techniques. This process releases embedded soils, reducing water usage and energy consumption while ensuring a thorough wash.

06

Automatic Washing & Rinsing

Rugs are loaded onto a conveyor belt and gently scrubbed by counter-rotating soft brush heads. Speed, pressure, and detergent levels are adjusted for each fiber type, ensuring effective cleaning. Pressurised water and a squeegee system thoroughly rinse away soils and apply a conditioner for softness and freshness.

07

Hand Washing & Fringe Cleaning

Delicate rugs or those with long fringe are washed by hand in our dedicated wash pit using scrub brushes and rotary machines for precise control. After soaking, rugs are washed on both sides, flushed with pressurised water, and conditioned for optimal results.

08

Centrifuge Rapid Moisture Removal

Rugs are placed in centrifuges to remove up to 95% of the water, drastically reducing drying time and minimising the risk of shrinkage, discoloration, or reshaping.

09

Humidity & Temperature Controlled Drying

Rugs are hung on drying racks in our controlled environment, where temperature and humidity are carefully regulated. Hand grooming ensures proper pile alignment, and rugs are tested with a moisture meter before packing to ensure complete dryness.

10

Stain Guard Protection Treatment

Optional: Our advanced Stain Guard solution is evenly applied to protect against water and oil-based stains. This polymer protection air cures quickly, remains stable against UV degradation, and preserves the rug’s natural feel without leaving any odor. This is an additional £20.00 per square metre.

11

Final Inspection & Packing

Rugs are vacuumed, inspected for quality control, and rolled onto our dedicated packing table. Once satisfied, rugs are wrapped in perforated plastic sleeves for breathable storage until collection or delivery. Please inform us on what you plan to do with your rug once it leaves the workshop as we will wrap it to suit your needs.
